Market Environment
US indices are slightly up in pre-market trading, extending their positive trend after new closing highs for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite on Thursday. Risk appetite persists despite a more cautious tone among investors, torn between strong corporate earnings (Alphabet, Tesla) and a rebound in bond yields following an unexpected drop in weekly jobless claims.
"The risk-on tone barely wavered yesterday, supported by another slew of solid economic data, allowing the S&P 500 to secure a fourth consecutive record," notes Jim Reid of Deutsche Bank.
On the macroeconomic front, investors will be watching June's durable goods orders. The consensus forecasts a modest increase of 0.1% M/M for core data, but a decline of -10.4% M/M for the main indicator.
"June's durable goods data won't clarify US monetary policy. Equipment order growth has faltered, and anticipatory buying due to tariffs is making the figures volatile," according to Paul Donovan of UBS.
