Market Environment
US markets continue to rise this Thursday morning, with futures showing slight gains despite Nvidia's decline. Wednesday’s session ended with new records, as the S&P 500 hit a historic peak of 6,481.38 points.
Nvidia posted better-than-expected results alongside a massive share buyback program. However, the stock is down 3% in pre-market trading, showing that expectations were extremely high and some signals (such as slightly lower datacenter revenues compared to consensus) are raising concerns.
“Even though US stocks reached new highs, many doubts persist in the background,” highlights Henry Allen from Deutsche Bank. Uncertainty about the Fed’s independence is fueling speculation about faster rate cuts and higher inflation, according to him.
Several key economic releases are expected today:
Q2 GDP revised up to +3.1% (from +3.0% initially)
Weekly Unemployment Claims expected at 230K
Pending Home Sales Index (July) expected at +0.2%
Fed Balance Sheet released late in the day
