Asian Session Summary: August 5, 2025
Japan – Nikkei 225 +0.69%
The market rebounded, supported by Wall Street's recovery and bargain buying. Improved services PMI (53.6) and expectations of a minimum wage hike boosted confidence. The yen remained stable around 147 and open BoJ minutes hinting at a possible rate hike also played a role.
China – Shanghai Composite +0.75%
Chinese markets advanced thanks to better-than-expected services PMIs (Caixin at 52.6) and a firmer yuan fix by the PBoC. However, investors remain cautious ahead of trade and inflation data amid concerns over domestic demand.
Hong Kong – Hang Seng +0.54%
Moderate rebound in Hong Kong, driven by buybacks after the previous day's decline. The local PMI (49.2) improved but remains in contraction. Tech stocks rebounded, helped by overall market optimism.
India – Sensex -0.45%
The Sensex fell, weighed down by technology, financial, and healthcare stocks. Despite a solid services PMI at 60.5, diplomatic tensions with the US and EU over Russian oil imports are taking a toll. Markets are closely watching the RBI's decision on Wednesday.
Session Overview
The Asian session was generally positive, driven by Wall Street’s rebound and encouraging PMIs in several countries. China and Japan benefited from strong macro indicators, while India suffered from external pressures. Markets remain sensitive to upcoming monetary policy decisions, particularly in the US and India.
