Market Environment
Wall Street is heading for a green open after Friday’s session ended with the worst drop since late May. Investors are regaining confidence after much weaker-than-expected job numbers, easing fears of monetary tightening.
The surprise resignation of Fed Governor Adriana Kugler, combined with the expected dismissal of the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner, raises concerns about institutional independence. “Kugler’s resignation gives Trump the opportunity to appoint a new board member, who could be a potential successor to Powell,” notes Jim Reid of Deutsche Bank.
The market remains focused on Donald Trump’s upcoming appointments to the Fed and BLS, which could affect his economic policy in a time of uncertainty.
On the earnings front: Palantir (PLTR) reports tonight. AMD and Pfizer follow on Tuesday, Disney on Wednesday.
Finally, on the macro side, June Factory Orders are expected to fall sharply (-5%) after jumping +8.2% the previous month.
