Market Environment
Wall Street is expected to open in positive territory this Tuesday, despite the ongoing US government shutdown, now in its 7th day. Futures are edging higher after a mixed Monday session that saw the Nasdaq and S&P 500 hit new records.
This performance was driven by Advanced Micro Devices (+23.71%) following the announcement of a massive chip supply deal with OpenAI.
"U.S. markets continue to be unfazed by matters in Europe or the ongoing shutdown... that was in part down to a huge surge for AMD," – Jim Reid, Deutsche Bank.
The market appears to be ignoring the institutional deadlock for now, but Kalshi now estimates the shutdown could last 18.5 days.
On the macroeconomic front, investors will be watching today for:
Speeches from several Fed members: Raphael Bostic, Michelle Bowman, and Stephen Miran.
August consumer credit data, expected to rise by $13.5 billion.
"If credit increases, is it because consumers are confident to spend or because they are shoring up weaker real incomes?" – Paul Donovan, UBS.
