Market Environment
Equity markets continue their retreat this Tuesday, in a climate of heightened caution surrounding AI themes and monetary policy expectations. Index futures are showing moderate losses, as investors increasingly price in the likelihood of the Fed holding steady in December.
Jim Reid (Deutsche Bank) points out that the S&P 500 closed Monday below its 50-day moving average for the first time in 139 sessions—the longest streak since 2007. The decline was broad, with 407 stocks down in the S&P, especially in tech: the SOXX semiconductor index dropped -1.55%.
On the macro side, rate-cut expectations are decreasing: the market now sees only a 41% chance of easing in December, down from 43% on Friday—the highest implied level since late August.
