Ripple has scored a major legal and reputational win after the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) officially dropped its long-running lawsuit against the blockchain firm.
The case, which began in 2020, accused Ripple of raising $1.4 billion through the unregistered sale of its XRP token. It was one of the most high-profile enforcement actions in crypto history and one of the most contentious.
With the charges now dropped, XRP surged over 8%, and Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse didn’t waste the moment to celebrate. “It’s a win for the entire industry,” he said.
The development also comes just days after President Trump’s pro-crypto policy proposals, suggesting a coordinated shift in Washington’s stance on digital finance.
Legal analysts say the SEC’s withdrawal could set a precedent for how future token offerings are regulated or not.
